Sky Tours @ YMCA Union Park Camp.

Leadership at the Dubuque Community Y began discussing the possibility of expanding the land use of Union Park with a zipline tour in early 2010. The setting alone – a 100-acre lush, green valley – seemed to inspire the perfect union of nature and adventure. Add its rich history into the mix and it elevates the experience to a whole new level.

The Dubuque Community Y contracted with Experienced-Based Learning, Inc. (EBL)*  to design and build the initial 7-zipline course. EBL resourcefully used Union Park’s natural valleys, ravines, hillsides, and bluffs to create an eco-friendly progression of seven(7) ziplines through the forested hills and valleys. In May 2011, with construction of the Sky Tours Zipline completed, guides were trained and certified and the 7-zipline course was opened to the public for business.

In January 2013, two more ziplines were added, bringing the total to nine. The new lines, lying essentially within the footprint of the existing course, cross over the main valley and return, running above and perpendicular to the existing lines of “The Duel” which runs through the valley, creating the Midwest’s  first double layered ziplines. The construction added an additional 1,600’ of distance to the course and raised the maximum height experienced to 70’.
